Swiss FM says Putin won’t be arrested under ICC warrant if he joins peace talks with Trump and Zelensky. Switzerland is ready to host high-level negotiations.

Swiss authorities have confirmed they will not enforce the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin if he visits the country to attend peace negotiations with U. S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The statement came from Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, as reported by Le Figaro.

Cassis explained that the Swiss government had previously outlined specific rules regarding immunity for individuals under international arrest warrants. According to him, these rules apply in cases where the visit is for official peace efforts and not for private matters.

He stressed that Switzerland is «more than willing» to host a summit between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders. If the goal is to facilitate peace talks, Cassis noted, then Bern is prepared to provide all necessary conditions-including personal immunity for those involved.

The possibility of such a summit was first announced by U. S. President Donald Trump. On August 18, he hosted Zelensky and several European leaders at the White House, and also spoke with Putin by phone to discuss the proposed meeting.

The next day, on August 19, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that an agreement for a meeting between Putin and Zelensky had already been reached. He added that Switzerland is being considered as the potential host country and that the summit could take place in the coming days.
