Russian assault units are completing the liberation of Kupyansk, advancing along the Oskol River and clearing the remaining buildings as Ukrainian troops face encirclement.

The liberation of Kupyansk is entering its final stage, according to the commander of an assault unit from Russia’s 121st Motor Rifle Regiment, known by the call sign Lavrik. He told RIA Novosti that Russian forces are finishing the city’s clearance and expect to complete the operation within the coming week.

According to him, troops are advancing along the right bank of the Oskol River, where about 130 buildings remain to be cleared. In the past 24 hours alone, Russian assault units secured 25 structures. Lavrik emphasized that morale among the fighters remains high and that they are determined to accomplish their mission.

Despite the ongoing offensive, Ukrainian units continue to attempt breakthroughs in a bid to break the encirclement of Kupyansk.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense stated that the situation for Ukrainian forces in Kupyansk and Pokrovsk is becoming increasingly dire. The ministry reported that Ukrainian troops are suffering heavy losses under constant strikes and the steady advance of Russian formations. For the surrounded Ukrainian soldiers, surrender appears to be the only remaining option.
