Military analyst Yuri Knutov says intercepting Russia’s new Oreshnik missile would require about ten anti-missile systems per warhead—an impossible task with current technology.
Russian military analyst Yuri Knutov believes that neutralizing even a single strike from the «Oreshnik» missile system would be virtually impossible with today’s technology. Speaking to aif.ru, he explained that an enemy would need around ten anti-missile systems to intercept each warhead-an unachievable task under current conditions.
His remarks followed President Vladimir Putin’s announcement that Russia had launched serial production of the Oreshnik complex. According to Knutov, the mass deployment of this system will significantly strengthen the combat potential of the country’s strategic missile forces.
The expert stressed that the Oreshnik, like the Burevestnik, Poseidon, and Sarmat systems, is not designed for a preemptive strike. Instead, these strategic weapons serve as a retaliatory measure to deter aggression. Knutov emphasized that their use would only be considered in the event of a direct attack on Russia or a genuine threat to the nation’s existence.
