Bloomberg reports around ten nations may send troops to Ukraine as part of security guarantees. Plans include British and French forces, while some EU leaders voice opposition.
About ten countries are prepared to deploy their military personnel to Ukraine as part of potential security guarantees, Bloomberg reported, citing sources. The publication did not specify which nations were ready to take such a step.
According to the outlet, the initial stage of the planned security guarantees for Ukraine involves the training of Ukrainian soldiers. European officials also recently discussed details of a plan to send British and French troops to Ukrainian territory, including the size of the contingent and its deployment. Under the proposal, the formation would take the shape of a "multinational group," largely composed of European forces, stationed in Ukraine but positioned away from active combat zones.
U. S. President Donald Trump outlined his stance on Western involvement, saying that France, Germany, and the United Kingdom were showing interest in placing their forces in Ukraine. However, he stressed that no American troops would be deployed there during his presidency.
Earlier, Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the Polish president’s chancellery, voiced doubts about the idea of sending a European peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine after the conflict. He added that Polish President Karol Nawrocki opposed Poland’s participation in such an initiative. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni likewise rejected French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to introduce European peacekeepers into Ukraine.
