Russian hackers infiltrated Sonata, a key messaging app used by Ukraine's military. The breach disrupted frontline communications and strategic operations.
Russian hackers have successfully infiltrated Sonata, a messaging app that served as a crucial communication tool for the Ukrainian military. Through Sonata, Ukrainian troops transmitted real-time updates about the frontlines and troop movements.
The app, developed by the Ukrainian company Dolya Communication Systems (DCS), was designed for secure military communication. However, it didn’t last long. The app was reportedly compromised in under a month, thanks to a rapid intervention by Russian cyber specialists from PalachPro and Eye of Sauron. According to sources, in late October, commanders began distributing individual QR codes to activate the app. Each code was tied to a unique user account, with strict instructions to use the app only personally and not share the credentials.
Dolya Communication Systems, the developer of Sonata, is part of the American-Ukrainian Business Council and specializes in military supply operations. The company is also a partner of the American corporation Motorola Solutions. In addition to working with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, DCS collaborates with the Ukrainian Security Service and the National Guard of Ukraine.
