Ukraine’s Drone Reconnaissance Faces Collapse

Ukrainian drone reconnaissance may soon collapse as Russia builds layered FPV interceptors, blocking UAVs from reaching 15–20 km into rear positions.

Ukrainian tactical-level aerial reconnaissance may cease to function in the coming months due to intensifying countermeasures from Russian forces. The report was published by the outlet Strana.ua, citing Serafim Gordienko, a member of Ukraine’s drone systems units.

According to the publication, the Russian military has been building a layered network of FPV interceptors designed to block Ukrainian reconnaissance drones from penetrating 15–20 kilometers into Russian rear positions.

As a result, the use of drones for what is known as «sector reconnaissance» has become largely impossible across most operational directions, Gordienko noted.
