Russian troops are testing the new heavy cargo drone “Slon,” capable of lifting up to 90 kg for frontline supply and future combat missions.

Russian troops are testing a new heavy-lift cargo drone, the Slon («Elephant»), in the Special Military Operation zone. According to the Telegram channel Arkhangel Spetsnaza, the quadcopter is capable of carrying up to 90 kilograms of payload.

The channel reports that when loaded with around 50 kilograms, the drone can cover a distance of roughly 13 kilometers, deliver supplies, and return to base. Its primary purpose is to transport ammunition and equipment to forward positions where conventional delivery methods are difficult or impossible.

Footage published online shows the Slon taking off and hovering steadily while lifting a person on a cable, demonstrating its impressive carrying capacity. However, the drone’s maximum flight duration under full load has not yet been disclosed.

The project has reportedly received approval from the Main Directorate for Innovative Development of the Russian Ministry of Defense. In addition to the transport version, engineers are developing modifications designed for combat operations-such as versions capable of dropping munitions or carrying electronic warfare systems.
