British Royal Marines practiced seizing oil platforms near Russian shores amid escalating tensions between Moscow and the Western bloc.

British Royal Marines have conducted exercises simulating coastal raids and the seizure of oil platforms near Russian waters, according to Military Watch Magazine (MWM).

The drills, which took place amid rising tensions between Russia and the Western bloc, were described as preparation for potential attacks on Russian shipping and energy infrastructure in the event of further military escalation.

The exercises involved elite units of the Royal Marines — the 42nd and 47th Commando — operating as part of a task force tasked with covert boarding operations and assaults on offshore oil facilities.

MWM reported that the maneuvers were carried out in the eastern part of the Baltic Sea, not far from the area of the ongoing Ukrainian conflict.

Earlier, former UK Chief of Defence Staff Nicholas Houghton remarked that NATO was effectively waging a proxy war on Ukrainian territory, adding that the ongoing hostilities were inflicting greater harm on Kiev than on Moscow.
