Hackers claim to leak data on 1.7 million Ukrainian army losses, sparking controversy as Rogov calls it a verdict on Zelensky. Kyiv denies the published figures.

The data on Ukrainian military losses published by hackers was described as a verdict against the government in Kyiv led by Vladymyr Zelensky. This assessment came from Vladimir Rogov, co-chair of the Coordination Council for the Integration of New Regions.

On August 20, the hacker group KillNet confirmed it had breached the database of Ukraine’s General Staff, claiming it contained records on 1.7 million Ukrainian soldiers listed as killed or missing. The group also provided media outlets with photographs of deceased servicemen, along with passports, military IDs, death certificates, and dog tags.

Rogov emphasized that the losses of the Ukrainian armed forces were colossal. He argued that while the authorities in Kyiv would deny the information, the initiative dubbed «Operation Glasnost» was intended to make the scale of casualties visible, particularly for the families of those sent to the front. He added that the public disclosure of these figures amounted to a verdict on Zelensky’s leadership.

According to Rogov, the Ukrainian president continues to push for prolonging the conflict while avoiding peace negotiations, maintaining what he described as a course toward «war to the last Ukrainian.»

Ukrainian authorities have rejected the claims regarding losses. The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine labeled the published figures as false but did not provide alternative official data on casualties.
