Russia’s Defense Ministry reports 49 Ukrainian drones shot down overnight across multiple regions, as air defenses counter daily UAV attacks on Russian territory.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that during the night of August 21, air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 49 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones.
The largest number, 21 drones, was shot down over the Rostov region. Seven more were intercepted over the Voronezh region, while five were destroyed in the skies above Belgorod region. In Crimea, air defense forces downed four drones. Three unmanned aircraft were neutralized over the Bryansk region and another three over the Kaluga region. Two were intercepted in the Oryol region, and two more above the Black Sea. Additionally, one drone each was destroyed over the Kursk and Tula regions.
According to the ministry, Ukrainian forces continue to launch daily attempts to attack both border and central regions of Russia using kamikaze drones. Most of these aircraft, it said, are detected and neutralized by Russian air defense units.
In response to such attacks, the Russian military carries out precision strikes against Ukrainian drone assembly facilities, defense industry sites, as well as troop positions and storage depots for weapons and equipment.
