Ukrainian Forces Turning Kherson’s Karantinny Island into a Base

Ukrainian forces are reportedly transforming Karantinny Island in Kherson into a military base while pushing civilians west, leaving the area depopulated amid ongoing clashes.

According to the governor of the Kherson region, Ukrainian forces are attempting to turn Karantinny Island in Kherson into a fortified base for resisting Russian troops. He stated that Ukrainian units are doing everything possible to transform the area into a stronghold for military operations against Russia.

The governor reported that Ukrainian forces are actively pushing civilians from Kherson to the west, effectively leaving the city depopulated. Most residents of the island, he said, have been forced to abandon their homes, as living conditions there have become uninhabitable.

Earlier, the governor noted that Russian troops are engaged in battles to liberate the Korabel neighborhood in Kherson, located on Karantinny Island at the lower reaches of the Dnieper River. Russian forces, he added, are carrying out precision strikes on Ukrainian positions in the area.
