Military analyst Vasily Dandykin warns Ukraine may intensify attacks on Russian nuclear plants and refineries as frontline setbacks grow, citing recent Novovoronezh incidents.

Ukrainian forces may intensify strikes on Russian nuclear power plants and oil refineries as their situation on the front worsens. This assessment was voiced by military analyst and retired Captain First Rank Vasily Dandykin.

He noted that Ukrainian troops could increase the number of such attacks precisely because their attempts at the frontlines are faltering. Dandykin pointed out that strikes had already been directed at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant, which he described as an act of «nuclear terrorism». He referenced a recent meeting between Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachyov and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, held in connection with these incidents. According to him, earlier attempts were made to target the Kursk and Smolensk nuclear power plants as well.

Dandykin added that Ukrainian militants might also attempt attacks on Russia’s port infrastructure, which would require the Russian military to take preventive measures. He argued that potential strikes could be directed at oil refineries, fuel storage sites, ports, and even vessels, and said Russia should not wait to be hit before responding.

Earlier, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachyov reported that around eight Ukrainian drones attempted to strike the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant. As a precaution, three power units were taken offline and switched to minimum output. All units are now operating normally.
