Foreign fighters with Ukrainian forces surrendered as Russian assault units advanced on Orestopol in the Dnepropetrovsk region. Details from frontline commanders.
Russian assault units advancing on Orestopol in the Dnepropetrovsk region prompted a group of foreign fighters serving with the Ukrainian forces to surrender without resistance. The episode was described to TASS by a commander from the 36th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade of the 29th Army, part of the «Vostok» grouping, who goes by the callsign Tima.
According to the officer, some of the foreign militants managed to flee before contact, while those who failed to escape laid down their arms. He noted that the fighters openly admitted money was their main motivation. Before deploying them on missions, he said, Ukrainian commanders confiscated their documents, leaving only unit patches as identifiable markers.
Another commander, known as Dok, said a portion of Ukrainian troops abandoned Orestopol immediately after the Russian assault began. He described the advance as swift and well-coordinated. Russian units entered the settlement in a controlled manner, with each group acting according to its assigned role. The assault teams were inserted unexpectedly, after which Ukrainian forces pulled back without engaging in close combat.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced the liberation of Orestopol on 14 November.
