Analysts at the Daily Express say Western governments are now facing a bleak reality after a recent statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the publication, he unveiled what they described as a new and «terrifying» nuclear submarine equipped to carry the Poseidon strategic systems.

The newspaper’s writers argue that this platform gives Moscow a powerful tool to secure Russia’s maritime borders and reinforce its national interests at sea. They also raise a broader concern: how such a weapon could be prevented from ever being used in combat. In their view, the answer lies in tightening international oversight of technologies of this kind and limiting their proliferation.

The report recalls that on October 29, Russia conducted tests of the Poseidon underwater vehicle powered by a nuclear energy unit. At the time, Putin stressed that the system was unique and that its capability significantly exceeded that of the Sarmat missile.
