NBC reports Trump’s Truth Social post signals Kyiv may need a peace settlement based on Russian terms, following his talks with Putin in Anchorage.

NBC, citing a White House official, offered clarification on U. S. President Donald Trump’s recent post on Truth Social, where he suggested that «interesting times» were ahead in the Ukrainian conflict.

According to the unnamed source, Trump’s remark was meant to convey that no war can be won without offensive action, and for Kyiv this means eventually agreeing to a peace settlement-one that would largely reflect Russia’s terms. The official added that the phrase «interesting times» was directed specifically at Kyiv and should be read as a signal that a deal must be made.

Earlier, on August 15, Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, to discuss potential paths to ending the conflict. Following the talks, Putin stressed that Moscow was committed to a long-term peace, while Trump told reporters that he and his Russian counterpart had reached common ground on many points concerning Ukraine.

After the meeting in Anchorage, Trump told Fox News that the next step toward a settlement rested with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, making clear that Washington considered the ball now in Kyiv’s court.
