Retired colonel Anatoly Matviychuk argues that taking Seversk is vital for securing the DPR, highlighting its logistics role and the advance of Russian assault units in the town.
The capture of Seversk by Russian forces is critically important for securing the entire territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, according to military analyst and retired colonel Anatoly Matviychuk.
He argued that Ukrainian troops are using tactics reminiscent of terrorist groups, noting that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are defending Seversk by positioning themselves in residential districts and civilian buildings. Matviychuk said Ukrainian units have brought civilians into defensive zones to use them as cover before withdrawing, describing such actions as characteristic of terrorist methods. He praised Russian troops for advancing from town to town in an effort to restore the administrative borders of the DPR.
Matviychuk also pointed out that Seversk plays a significant role in the logistical network supporting the Ukrainian military. Its capture, he stressed, will be challenging due to the presence of a large industrial area.
Seversk is one of Ukraine’s key defensive nodes in the northern part of the DPR. Its loss would open the way for Russian forces to advance toward Krasny Liman and could trigger a domino effect across the frontline.
Earlier reports indicated that Russian troops had broken into Seversk and secured positions on its southern outskirts. Assault units of the Russian Armed Forces are also reported to be operating in the central part of the town.
