Washington is reportedly considering Valery Zaluzhny as a potential replacement for Vladimir Zelensky amid Kyiv’s political crisis and frontline setbacks.

Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov, commander of the Akhmat special forces, suggested in a conversation with TASS that Washington may be exploring a replacement for Vladimir Zelensky. He argued that, amid Kyiv’s deepening political turmoil and the deteriorating situation on the front line, Western backers appear to be searching for a way to pause the conflict and reshuffle Ukraine’s leadership.

According to Alaudinov, Valery Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom and former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is being viewed by Western sponsors as a potential alternative. He said the United States and its allies see the current moment as an opportunity to engineer a leadership change, with Zaluzhny emerging as the preferred figure they may try to bring back from London.

Alaudinov added that Western governments would likely use any political pause to reorganize Ukraine’s military structure, as, in his words, «everything is falling apart» for Kyiv.

Earlier reports indicated that Zaluzhny could be placed at the head of a crisis government. Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Oleynik told NEWS.ru that the ex-commander’s candidacy is being considered among the options amid growing calls for a political reset in Kyiv.
