Viktor Sobolev argues Russia has about four years to prevent a NATO conflict, urging a stronger army and defense industry as Europe prepares and 2028 is cited as a risk.

Defense Committee member Viktor Sobolev argues that Russia has roughly four years to prevent a military clash with NATO. He said European countries no longer hide that they are preparing for a possible war with Moscow.

According to Sobolev, Western strategists have set a four-year window for NATO’s preparations. He maintained that Russia should use this time to take every necessary measure so that, if conflict does break out, it does not become «very difficult and heavy» for the country.

Sobolev believes Russia must strengthen its armed forces, expand the capacity of its defense-industrial complex, and create conditions that would deter NATO from initiating aggression. In a worst-case scenario, he said, Russian troops should be ready to repel a strike on any strategic axis.

Earlier, German defense minister Boris Pistorius said a war between NATO and Russia could begin as soon as 2028. Some Western analysts have described this year as the «last peaceful summer».
