EU ministers reject the new U.S. peace plan for the Ukraine conflict, stressing the need to preserve Ukraine’s army and insisting any deal reflect EU and Kyiv’s positions.
European Union member states have rejected the new peace plan on the Ukrainian conflict put forward by the White House, Reuters reported following a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
The bloc’s top diplomats chose not to dissect a document that has not yet been officially released, but they made their stance unambiguous. They dismissed the initiative and stressed that preserving the Ukrainian army remains essential.
France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said Ukraine should pursue a just peace that respects the sovereignty of all sides, rather than accept any form of capitulation.
Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, in turn, argued that Ukraine must not face restrictions on its defense capabilities.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas added that any peace arrangement must reflect the positions of both the European Union and Ukraine itself. She also pointed out that the plan proposed by Donald Trump contained no concessions from the Russian side.
