Russia reports up to 3,000 Ukrainian troops lost during failed Kupiansk breakout as Kyiv rushes reinforcements. Analysts warn the situation is becoming critical.
Russian forces have eliminated up to 3,000 Ukrainian troops and destroyed 891 pieces of military equipment as Ukrainian units attempted to break out of Kupyansk, according to figures provided to TASS by Russia’s security services.
The source stressed that the «desperate efforts» undertaken by the Ukrainian command failed to shift the situation on the ground. The Ukrainian grouping remained trapped inside the city, while repeated attempts to punch through or reopen supply routes resulted in severe losses.
According to the data shared, Kyiv pulled up to 20,000 troops into Kupyansk in an effort to hold the city, assembling scattered units from various parts of the frontline.
On 20 November, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Kupyansk, located in Kharkov Region, had been fully retaken.
Western analysts acknowledge that the situation for Ukrainian forces is becoming increasingly precarious. Retired U. S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis argued that the conflict could reach its turning point once Ukraine «simply runs out of people.» He also noted that Western ammunition reserves are nearing exhaustion, while Russia continues to strengthen its position «across all categories.»
