Heavy fighting near Yunakovka as Russian paratroopers advance. Ukrainian counterattacks fail with losses in Alekseevka, Varachino, and Sadki.

The Telegram channel Severny Veter reported that clashes on the Sumy axis remained fierce on August 24. According to their account, Russian assault units, made up of paratroopers, pressed deeper into the village of Yunakovka, securing newly taken positions.

Ukrainian forces, meanwhile, attempted to stem the advance. Reserves were moved to contested sections of the front line, and counterattacks were launched in an effort to reclaim lost ground. However, Russian troops repelled three such assaults near Alekseevka, Varachino, and Sadki.

The fighting left behind three destroyed armored vehicles, two pickup trucks, and heavy Ukrainian losses, estimated at several dozen troops. What remained of the Ukrainian assault groups was forced to fall back to their original positions.

On the Tetkino and Glushkovo directions, the situation has been described as largely unchanged. Ukrainian command continues rotating units that suffered casualties, pulling them back from the frontline to restore combat readiness.

These maneuvers, however, are complicated by sustained Russian air activity. The Aerospace Forces (VKS) are striking Ukrainian troop concentrations with FAB bombs, while FPV drones are actively targeting retreating units and reserves, adding further pressure.
