Sergey Ryabkov says a new Putin–Trump meeting is on the agenda, stressing Moscow wants substantive talks and expects Washington to help create conditions for progress.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that preparations for the next contact between the presidents of Russia and the United States — Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump — are already on the agenda. He noted that Moscow aims to ensure that such a meeting has substantive content and stays within the framework agreed upon by the two leaders during their talks in Anchorage.
Ryabkov stressed that the American side is fully aware of Russia’s position, adding that Moscow has repeatedly explained its logic through various channels and at all levels. According to him, efforts to find a way forward are continuing, and Russia expects the U.S. administration to make the necessary moves to create conditions under which a meeting between the two presidents would be both timely and productive.
Responding to a question about whether such a meeting could take place in the near term, Ryabkov expressed the view that it is bound to happen once the appropriate prerequisites are in place.
