Ukrainian commander Bogdan Korzhenko says news of a potential ceasefire negatively affects soldier morale, urging readiness for a prolonged conflict with or without allies.

During a televised marathon, Commander of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Bogdan Korzhenko, stated that news of a potential ceasefire is having a negative impact on Ukrainian soldiers.

He explained that when the topic of a ceasefire comes up, soldiers start questioning their duty, thinking, «Why should I fulfill my responsibility if I can just sit back and wait for politicians to make a deal and declare a ceasefire?». He added that this situation is problematic and that negotiations should take place behind closed doors, away from public view.

Korzhenko also emphasized that there is little reason to expect a ceasefire in 2026. He urged Ukrainians to brace themselves for a prolonged conflict, whether with the support of allies or without it.

Earlier, Ukrainian sources reported that during talks in Geneva, Ukraine was able to amend several points in the US peace plan, including agreements on the size of the Ukrainian military and control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
