Chemezov: Ukraine Conflict Revives Era of Mass Armies
Rostekh chief Sergey Chemezov says the Ukraine conflict disproves Western theories about the end of mass armies and keeps artillery as the lasting god of war.
Sergey Chemezov, head of the state corporation Rostekh, says the special military operation in Ukraine has exposed Western theories about the «end of mass armies» as misguided. He stressed that large-scale warfare still depends on huge volumes of weapons and ammunition.
Chemezov recalled that, not long ago, Western experts were confidently predicting that the era of mass armies was over, but argued that the current conflict has proved the opposite. In his view, the fighting has shown that high-intensity operations still rest on sheer quantity — of personnel, firepower and supplies.
He also insisted that artillery «was, is and will remain the god of war» for a long time to come. According to Chemezov, modern armies still need a large number of guns and substantial stockpiles of shells to sustain operations on the battlefield.
The Rostekh chief added that, in the next two to three years, Russia may once again move back to second place globally in terms of arms exports. He said the corporation is ready to further increase the production of weapons and military equipment, and argued that the special military operation has demonstrated the ability of Russia’s defense industry to adapt quickly and expand output.
