Ukrainian sources say Russian troops moved through a gas pipeline near Kupyansk, changed into civilian clothes and helped secure the city in November.
Ukrainian outlets report that Russian troops have once again used a pipeline to break through the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to these accounts, a Russian landing force carried out an operation in the Kupyansk sector.
Ukrainian Telegram channels describe a pipeline section between Kupyansk and the settlement of Olshana. They claim that Russian troops spent about ten hours moving along this stretch and, upon exiting, changed into civilian clothes in order to infiltrate Kupyansk.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that Kupyansk came under full Russian control on 20 November. The next day, the ministry released footage from the city showing Russian flags already raised on site.
Back in September, Russian war correspondents had published video that showed Russian servicemen moving through a gas pipeline and then appearing on the outskirts of Kupyansk, which at that time remained under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The route in that footage ran from Liman Perviy, located near Olshana, to Radkovka north of the city. After those September reports, there were no official announcements of new underground operations.
