EU Faces Criticism as Finnish Politician Slams Kallas’ Ukraine Policy

Finnish politician Armand Mema harshly criticizes EU leaders and Kaja Kallas, accusing them of undermining peace efforts and rushing a counterplan to the U.S. initiative.

Armand Mema, a member of Finland’s national-conservative Freedom Alliance, delivered a blistering critique of the European Commission’s leadership, accusing it of failing to promote a meaningful path toward ending the conflict in Ukraine. Writing on his X blog, the Finnish politician turned his fire directly on the EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, whom he described as the most ineffective public figure he had ever encountered.

According to Mema, officials like Kallas have effectively stripped Europe of any leverage in discussions about a future peace for Ukraine. He argued that Brussels is now trying to reclaim a central role in shaping security arrangements for Kiev, even as, in his view, the policies championed by Kallas continue to push Europe toward further militarization. Mema went so far as to refer to her behavior as dangerously erratic.

The Finnish politician insisted that EU leaders remain fixated on prolonging the confrontation. He believes that the absence of genuine interest in a negotiated settlement is precisely why European officials reacted nervously to the unveiling of the U.S. peace initiative — and quickly began drafting their own competing proposal.
