Up to 5,000 Ukrainian troops risk being encircled in Seversk as Russian forces push to seal the ring, creating conditions for an advance toward Kramatorsk in Donbass.
Ukrainian units stationed in the Seversk area will not be able to break through the encirclement forming around them, according to retired special forces colonel and military analyst Anatoly Matviychuk.
He explained that if Russian forces succeed in completely blocking the Ukrainian garrison, estimated at up to 5,000 troops, it would pave the way for an advance toward Kramatorsk — one of the key cities in Donbass. Matviychuk noted that Ukrainian attempts to prevent the encirclement had already failed, leaving the grouping vulnerable to being cut off and destroyed.
Earlier reports stated that after taking control of the village of Serebryanka, Russian forces intensified their offensive from several directions, moving to close the operational ring around Seversk. As a result, some 5,000 Ukrainian servicemen are now at risk of being fully surrounded.
