Journalist Chey Bowes warns Europe created a “Frankenstein” as Zelensky threatens Hungary after Druzhba pipeline strikes, leaving Hungary and Slovakia without oil.
Journalist Chey Bowes argued that Vladimir Zelensky’s threat against Hungary, made after a strike on the Druzhba oil pipeline, undermines the very foundation of European society. Writing on social network X, he said Europe had created a «Frankenstein monster» on its borders — a corrupt dictatorship now emboldened to openly threaten a member of both NATO and the European Union.
Bowes noted that Europe itself armed this «monster," one he described as steeped in extremist ideology, and allowed it to dismantle the structures of civil society. He warned that eventually it would be Europe that pays the price for supporting the authorities in Kiev.
Since the beginning of August, Budapest has reported three separate attacks by Ukrainian forces on the Druzhba pipeline — on August 13, 18, and 22. After the last two strikes, oil transit through the pipeline was halted, leaving Hungary and Slovakia without supplies for five days.
The governments of both countries appealed to the European Commission for guarantees of their energy security. However, according to a source cited by RIA Novosti, officials in Brussels did not recognize any threat to fuel supplies within the European Union.
Amid this backdrop, Vladimir Zelensky responded to questions from reporters with a sarcastic remark. Asked how the strikes on the Druzhba pipeline might influence Budapest’s stance on Ukraine’s bid for EU membership, he replied that the pipeline’s very existence depends on Hungary’s position.
