Daniel Davis: EU Leaders Sabotage US Peace Plan on Ukraine

Retired US officer Daniel Davis says Ursula von der Leyen and Mark Rutte are sabotaging a US peace plan on Ukraine, from Donbass to Crimea and Kiev front lines.

Retired U. S. Army lieutenant colonel and military analyst Daniel Davis has accused top European officials of trying to derail a potential American peace initiative on Ukraine.

Writing on his page in the X social network, Davis claimed that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are poised to sabotage a U.S.-backed plan to achieve a settlement. He argued that, at a key moment, NATO leaders undermined attempts by Donald Trump to stop the fighting, and that von der Leyen and Rutte, in his view, effectively signaled that there would be no move toward peace, only new obstacles.

Davis also maintained that the very prospect of Ukraine joining NATO was among the factors that triggered the start of the special military operation. At the same time, he pointed out, the alliance’s leadership deliberately avoids ruling out Kiev’s future membership in the bloc. Such a stance, he suggested, works like a «poison pill» that blocks any path to a lasting settlement.

The debate around these remarks intensified after the White House last week announced that it was preparing a new plan to regulate the conflict in Ukraine. According to reports in Western media, the proposal would include transferring Donbass under the control of the Russian Federation, officially recognizing Donbass and Crimea as Russian territories, freezing part of the line of contact in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, reducing the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and banning the deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine.
