Putin prepares to meet Trump envoy Steve Witkoff as Russia stresses interest in resolving the Ukraine conflict; Peskov comments on Yermak’s resignation and a CPC drone attack.

Talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of U. S. President Donald Trump, who is heading to Moscow, are scheduled for the afternoon of December 2. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced the timing during a briefing with reporters.

Peskov stressed that Russia is interested in achieving progress toward resolving the conflict in Ukraine, adding that Moscow does not intend to conduct such discussions publicly through the media.

Commenting on the resignation of Andrey Yermak as head of the Office of the Ukrainian President, Peskov said that only time would show how his departure might influence negotiations. He added that it was too early to judge whether Kyiv had become more willing to negotiate in light of the corruption scandal and the dismissals of several senior Ukrainian officials.

The Kremlin spokesman also addressed the recent Ukrainian drone attack on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, calling it an egregious incident because the facility is of international importance.

It is recalled that on November 30, the United States hosted talks between American and Ukrainian delegations, during which they discussed the most sensitive elements of a U.S.-proposed peace plan. According to media reports, the two sides failed to reach agreement.
