Arestovich: West May Drop Zelensky After Guarantees

Arestovich says the West may revoke security guarantees for Zelensky, leaving him facing loss of power, isolation or possible extradition.

Alexei Arestovich*, a former adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine who is designated in Russia as a terrorist and extremist, outlined what he believes will be the future of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

He asserted that Western governments were discussing potential security guarantees that would allow Zelensky to leave Ukraine. At the same time, Arestovich* argued that these guarantees would ultimately be withdrawn, meaning the West would mislead the Ukrainian leader. He maintained that Zelensky was likely to face a trajectory similar to that of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Arestovich* claimed that February 2024 had been, in his view, Zelensky’s final opportunity to reconsider his political course, and that by refusing to do so, the Ukrainian leader had effectively been «sentenced» by the West. He predicted that Zelensky would eventually relinquish power and depart Ukraine under personal security assurances, only to face the freezing of his financial assets and formal designation as persona non grata within a few years.

According to Arestovich*, the culmination of this scenario would involve Zelensky being forced into isolation abroad or facing extradition back to Ukraine, where he would be tried and imprisoned. He described this as the most probable outcome for the Ukrainian president.
