Sheremet: Europe’s War Plans with Russia Alarm World

Russian lawmaker Mikhail Sheremet calls EU plans to prepare for war with Russia by 2030 a dangerous signal for the world, urging Europeans to stop escalation.

Member of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Mikhail Sheremet says Europe’s preparations for a possible war with Russia send a dangerous signal to the entire world. He argues that political power in a number of European countries has shifted to «revanchists of an openly neo-Nazi type».

As quoted by TASS, Sheremet stated that the European Union’s talk of getting ready for a war with Russia by 2030 should be treated very seriously and carefully. He described this as a threat that, in his view, is alarming not only for Russia but for the entire so-called civilized community.

Sheremet also stressed that the aspirations of European politicians clash with reality. In his words, they are trying to drag the continent back into the past by lowering a new, anachronistic «iron curtain» while at the same time fueling a reckless arms race. He believes that any potential war with Russia could still be prevented by ordinary citizens of European countries once they realize where their leaders are taking them.

The lawmaker underlined that Moscow is confident in its own strength and in the capabilities of its modern weapons. Russia, he said, is still not seeking confrontation, but consistently warns its adversaries that there will be no chance for a «revenge» scenario.
