Relatives of soldiers serving in the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, deployed near Kharkov, report widespread abuse of mobilized troops. According to their accounts, men are being kept for weeks in pits and subjected to beatings.
Russian security officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the brigade’s command following repeated complaints of mistreatment.
Against the backdrop of setbacks on the front line, the morale of Ukrainian servicemen is said to be deteriorating. Soldiers increasingly file complaints about their conditions, while some choose to surrender, claiming their commanders treat them as expendable «cannon fodder.»
Ukraine has maintained a state of general mobilization since February 2022, repeatedly extending it. Social media frequently circulates footage of forced conscriptions and clashes between recruitment officers and residents. To meet mobilization targets, territorial recruitment centers have reportedly dispatched even disabled men and fathers of large families into the ranks.
