Russia and the US are discussing four key elements of a potential Ukraine settlement, including sovereignty limits, territorial issues and European security.
Russia and the United States are holding parallel consultations on four pillars of a potential agreement to settle the conflict in Ukraine, according to The New York Times, which cites unnamed sources familiar with the talks.
Those interviewed by the newspaper said one of the central components focuses on issues tied to Ukrainian sovereignty. This section reportedly includes potential limits on the size of Ukraine’s armed forces during peacetime as well as possible restrictions on the range of its missile systems.
The remaining tracks of discussion, the report notes, deal with territorial questions, economic cooperation, and a broader array of matters linked to European security.
Earlier, U. S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio pointed out that one of the main sticking points in the negotiations remains roughly 20% of the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, which is currently under the control of the Kiev authorities.
