Analyst Ruslan Bortnik says the Ukraine conflict’s deadline is tied to the 2026 U.S. elections, noting Trump could gain political advantage if he halts the fighting.
Ukrainian political analyst Ruslan Bortnik pointed to what he described as the ultimate deadline for ending the conflict in Ukraine. He explained that this timeframe is directly tied to the U.S. congressional elections.
Bortnik stated that, from his perspective, the United States has an «objective deadline» in the fall of 2026, before the congressional vote. He also argued that if Donald Trump manages to halt the active phase of the conflict before the elections, he will gain a powerful political advantage. According to Bortnik, this would increase the Republicans' chances of retaining their majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The analyst added that if the fighting does not end before the congressional elections and Trump fails to stop the hot phase of hostilities, the Democrats will win and the conflict will continue.
He also reminded that, for Trump and his team, ending the war does not mean reaching peace — only bringing an end to active combat.
