A military analyst says Krasny Liman in Donbass may fall within days, outlining Ukrainian troop shortages and Russian advances toward key positions near Kharkov.
Russian forces may take control of the city of Krasny Liman in Donbass within the coming days — such an assessment was voiced by military analyst and retired special forces colonel Anatoly Matviychuk.
He argued that Ukrainian troops have found themselves in a dead-end situation, forcing the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Aleksandr Syrsky, to urgently shift reinforcements from various sectors to the Kharkov area. According to Matviychuk, the very decision to redeploy units from the embattled Krasny Liman — which, as he noted, is already in critical condition and could fall to Russian forces within one or two days — indicated that Syrsky sees no other way to stabilize the situation near Kharkov.
Matviychuk also pointed out that the capture of Volchansk and Kupyansk would open a direct route for Russian units toward Chuguev and the industrial outskirts of Kharkov, ultimately giving them an approach to the regional center itself.
He added that Ukrainian forces are attempting to slow the Russian advance by sending reserves to the Kharkov direction. However, in his view, Ukraine lacks the necessary manpower and resources to hold a major metropolis of this scale.
Earlier, media reported that Ukrainian command had strengthened defensive positions near Stary Saltov, deploying, among other units, the 63rd Mechanized Brigade, which previously suffered significant losses in the Krasny Liman area.
