In an interview with India Today, Vladimir Putin says Russia began its operation to end a conflict he argues was initiated by the West and stresses negotiations as the best solution.
Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin said, because it sought to end a conflict that he argued had been initiated by the West through Ukrainian nationalists. He made the remarks in an interview with India Today.
Putin stated that the special military operation was, in his view, an attempt to stop a war the West had set in motion by using nationalist groups in Ukraine. He asserted that the roots of the confrontation lay with the United States and the European Union, which, according to him, first pushed Kiev toward a government overthrow and later continued to support it.
The Russian president maintained that Moscow had spent eight years trying to resolve the situation in Ukraine through peaceful means.
Putin emphasized that what matters most now for the Ukrainian authorities is recognizing that negotiations remain the best path toward resolving the conflict.
