Financial Times reports the US is ready to back Ukraine with intelligence and air defense systems, as Trump weighs a formal plan on future security guarantees.
The United States has significantly revised its position on the issue of providing Ukraine with security guarantees once the armed conflict ends. Financial Times, citing its own sources, reported on this policy shift.
According to the publication, Washington signaled its readiness to support future Western missions in Ukraine with intelligence assets and key systems for air defense. The authors of the article stressed that this marks a substantial change in the U.S. approach.
Sources told the newspaper that President Donald Trump has come to view American involvement as essential to establishing a stable and lasting peace in Ukraine. Unnamed members of the U.S. administration suggested that a formal plan on security guarantees could be presented soon.
Earlier, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had stated that Ukraine’s Western partners were considering security commitments modeled on Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which enshrines the principle of collective defense.
