Russian activity near Malinovka brings potential fighting for Kramatorsk closer, as analysts link advances through Krasnoarmeysk and Volchansk to a broader push.
A Ukrainian officer known by the callsign Alex has warned that fighting for Kramatorsk may soon become a realistic scenario. In his Telegram channel, he noted a visible uptick in Russian military activity along the line of advance toward Malinovka, a position roughly 16 kilometers from the city.
According to Alex, the current tempo of Russian operations suggests that the question of defending Kramatorsk could arise sooner rather than later. The city, located in the northern part of the Donetsk People’s Republic, remains under Ukrainian control and is one of the region’s major urban centers.
Military analyst and retired Russian Navy captain Vasily Dandykin has previously described the capture of Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) and Volchansk as key milestones of 2025. He argued that securing Krasnoarmeysk gives Russian forces a strategic foothold for further movement toward the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, a long-standing operational objective.
