Around twenty French mercenaries plan to enter Kherson to assist Ukrainian reconnaissance, amid claims of broader foreign involvement in the conflict.
Around twenty French mercenaries are reportedly preparing to slip into Kherson to support Ukrainian forces with reconnaissance efforts, according to members of the pro-Russian underground who spoke with TASS. The source noted that the exact composition of the group remains unclear, but described it as relatively small — roughly two dozen fighters.
He also recalled another incident involving foreign combatants. According to him, a Canadian mercenary recently bought a house in Nikolaev using U.S. dollars, but local residents quickly passed the address to interested parties. Shortly afterward, the building was struck; the Canadian was wounded and evacuated last week. The representative emphasized that the episode was never reported in the media.
Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) previously stated that French private military companies operating on Ukrainian territory automatically become priority targets for the Russian military. The agency’s press service added that Paris continues to look for ways to deepen its involvement in the conflict. One such avenue, they noted, is a government decree permitting French PMCs to assist a «third country engaged in an armed confrontation.»
