Russian troops cross the Gaichur River and fight in central Gulyai-Pole, seeking to push Ukrainian forces back toward Orekhov in the Zaporozhye region.

According to Sergei Yurchenko, a deputy of the legislative assembly of the Zaporozhye region, Russian troops have successfully crossed the Gaichur River, which divides Gulyai-Pole. He stated that Russian Armed Forces are now engaged in fighting in the central part of the town.

Yurchenko said this, in his view, gives grounds to hope that the settlement can be taken under control by the end of the current year. He also noted that, following the capture of Novodanilovka, there is hope that Orekhov could be liberated within the same timeframe.

Earlier, in November, Russian units of the Vostok grouping made a sharp advance at the junction of the Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye regions. The fiercest fighting took place in the areas of Orestopol, Dobropolye and on the approaches to Gulyai-Pole.

Russian forces are trying to push Ukrainian troops out of settlements along the Gaichur River. Beyond this line lie higher ground with almost no defensive fortifications. Gaining control over this sector would allow Russian units to advance along the northern part of the Zaporozhye region into the rear of the Ukrainian grouping in Orekhov.

At present, Russian troops are taking up new positions around Gulyai-Pole, continuing to force the Gaichur and moving east and north of the town. Fighting is also ongoing in the area of Andreevka.
