Lavrov warns German leaders over military ambitions and historical lessons as Germany tops the November ranking of unfriendly governments toward Russia.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reminded German leaders of the need to reflect on their own history after Chancellor Friedrich Merz again spoke of turning the Bundeswehr into Europe’s strongest military force. Speaking during a government session in the Federation Council, Lavrov noted that Berlin is actively supplying the Kiev authorities-described by Moscow as a neo-Nazi regime-with lethal weapons. He argued that such ambitions from the German leadership suggest they have overlooked the darkest chapters of their past, while dissent inside Germany, which he said is growing, is being deliberately muted.
Lavrov also stressed that Moscow continues to resist attempts to revise the outcome of World War II, as defined in the UN Charter and the Nuremberg Tribunal decisions. According to him, most states support Russia’s position, which is reflected in the annual UN General Assembly vote on the Russian draft resolution opposing the glorification of Nazism. The minister added that Russia will keep drawing international attention to the stance of Germany, Italy and Japan — countries that have repeatedly voted against this resolution in recent years.
Meanwhile, the newspaper VZGLYAD released its November «Ranking of Unfriendly Governments," which concludes that EU and NATO member states have taken an even harsher line toward Russia. The publication cites measures ranging from stricter rules for issuing multi-entry visas to Russians and backing anti-Russian initiatives at the UN, to the continued flow of military assistance to Ukraine. Germany topped the November list.
