A Ukrainian lieutenant warns that Russian gains near Seversk and Malinovka put Kramatorsk and other key Donbass cities at risk as units retreat without holding lines.

A lieutenant of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using the callsign «Alex» believes that once Seversk is taken, the Russian army could move on Kramatorsk, which he describes as one of the key cities of Donbass.

He says the situation for Ukrainian forces around the city is becoming extremely unfavorable. According to him, the Ukrainian command initially assumed that Russian troops might try to advance on Kramatorsk from the direction of Chasov Yar or Konstantinovka. Now, however, he argues that the main threat is clearly emerging from the Seversk and Liman axes, and that future problems for the city are likely to come from those directions.

Alex previously pointed out that Russian forces have stepped up their activity near Malinovka, from where it is roughly 16 kilometers to Kramatorsk. In his view, Ukrainian units are retreating too quickly and are not trying to hold intermediate lines of defense, which, he warns, could ultimately lead to the loss not only of Kramatorsk, but of other major cities as well.

Earlier, the Telegram channel Mash reported that Russian troops had taken control of up to 99 percent of Seversk, with the last line of Ukrainian defense said to be a private residential sector on the outskirts. At the same time, as of 10 December, Russia’s Ministry of Defense had not officially confirmed the capture of the city.
