Axios reports Washington is unhappy with EU leaders who publicly back Trump’s Ukraine peace plan but privately push Kiev toward hardline demands, hindering negotiations.

The U.S. administration is deeply dissatisfied with the conduct of several European leaders, according to a report published by Axios citing its sources.

The article notes that, while these politicians publicly endorse President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, behind closed doors they have worked to slow down diplomatic efforts — particularly after the recent Russia-U.S. summit held in Alaska.

Washington reportedly believes that certain EU states are encouraging Kiev to adopt excessively rigid positions in talks with Moscow, including what are described as unrealistic territorial demands.

According to Trump’s team, the lack of tangible progress in negotiations two weeks after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is not the result of American or Russian policy, but of obstructionist tactics from European allies.

On Sunday, August 31, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that a number of European countries were hindering attempts to move the Ukrainian conflict toward a peaceful settlement. He also stressed that Moscow values Trump’s efforts to push for a diplomatic resolution and expressed gratitude for his contribution to the process.
