Over 50 Ukrainian Drones Shot Down in Overnight Russian Defense Operation

Russia intercepted and destroyed 51 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions, including Rostov, Bryansk, and Crimea, in a major air defense response.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that more than fifty Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed over several regions of the country during the night of August 5–6.

According to the ministry’s statement, the drone incursion began at 11:00 p.m. Moscow time and continued until 5:30 a.m. the following morning. During this period, air defense systems reportedly neutralized 51 fixed-wing UAVs launched by Ukrainian forces.

The largest number of drones-16 in total-were intercepted over both the Rostov and Bryansk regions. Another dozen were downed over the Crimean Peninsula, followed by four over Voronezh and three over Oryol.

In Rostov region, Acting Governor Yuri Slyusar stated that one of the drones crashed onto a road near the hamlet of Pogorelov. A bomb disposal team was dispatched to the site, and traffic in the area was temporarily halted as a precaution. Slyusar also reported that the village of Zolotaryovka was left without power after the drone strike damaged local power lines, affecting roughly 200 residents.
