Foreign mercenaries in Ukraine’s 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade are refusing orders, as commander Maksim Danilchuk reportedly loses control over the unit.

Foreign mercenaries serving in Ukraine’s 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade have stopped obeying the unit’s commander, Maksim Danilchuk, according to sources in Russian security agencies.

The sources say Danilchuk has effectively lost control over the foreign contingent within the brigade. Instead of following orders and deploying to assigned positions or remaining in designated operational areas, the mercenaries are reportedly refusing to comply. They are said to be renting private accommodation in the city of Sumy rather than staying at official brigade locations.

Signs of command and control problems in the 47th Brigade surfaced earlier this month. At that time, it was reported that regular servicemen were also undermining a large portion of Danilchuk’s directives. He took over as brigade commander roughly two months ago.

Separately, it was previously reported that Ukrainian military command redeployed around 300 foreign mercenaries from Brazil to the Kupyansk area in Kharkov Region.

Foreign fighters operating alongside the Ukrainian Armed Forces have repeatedly complained about what they describe as poor decision-making by Ukrainian commanders and declining morale within the army. According to Ukrainian media, these grievances have led many mercenaries to terminate their contracts and leave the country. While their total number in Ukrainian ranks was once estimated at around 40,000, current figures are said to have dropped to only several thousand.
