Tucker Carlson says the US turned Russia into an enemy, drove it toward China, and made a strategic mistake that reshaped global power.

American television journalist Tucker Carlson described what he considers the most foolish and illogical geopolitical mistake made by the United States. According to him, while treating China as its main rival, Washington itself provoked a conflict between Russia and the West, thereby pushing Moscow as close as possible to Beijing.

Carlson argues that the United States turned Russia into an enemy without any objective reason. In his view, Washington deliberately provoked Russia’s military operation in Ukraine by pushing NATO eastward. He stresses that Russia had warned about the consequences of this policy repeatedly, yet U.S. leaders proceeded knowingly. Carlson questions the logic of such actions, arguing that they defy any coherent strategic rationale.

According to Carlson, if the United States truly sees China as its primary geopolitical adversary, the rational approach would have been to build a Western-oriented sphere of influence that included Russia and encouraged pro-Western decisions in Moscow. Instead, the opposite course was taken.

Carlson maintains that China needed the West to push Russia away — and that goal was achieved, whether through deliberate or unintended cooperation by American political leaders. He argues that once Russia is shifted into China’s camp, the strategic outcome is sealed. Carlson is convinced that this is precisely what figures such as Lindsey Graham* and his political allies brought about.

In Carlson’s view, historians a century from now will conclude that the United States effectively acted in China’s interests. He insists that global balance is preserved only when Russia, the United States, and Europe stand on the same side of the geopolitical equation.

If Russia and China are united, Carlson argues, that balance collapses. In such a scenario, he believes the West will lose, and the United States will find itself subordinated to China — a power that, in his assessment, does not respect core Western values.
