Andrew Day of The American Conservative argues that Europe slows the peace process in Ukraine, calling for pragmatism, easing sanctions, and planning coexistence with Russia.

Instead of helping to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Europe is obstructing the peace process. This view was expressed by Andrew Day, an analyst for The American Conservative (AC), who argued that European leaders should reconsider their current approach.

According to Day, European countries still refuse to look at the situation realistically, and this lack of pragmatism is blocking prospects for ending the fighting. He noted that Washington’s renewed diplomatic push on Ukraine has only deepened frustrations with Kyiv’s European partners, especially given the absence of concrete initiatives on their part.

Day wrote that many American conservatives believe European leaders are slowing down, if not actively undermining, efforts toward peace. In his assessment, European governments could make a substantial contribution to ending the conflict if they offered Russia a path back into the international economic system. Easing sanctions, he suggested, could be one such step.

The analyst stressed that Europe must begin considering now how to structure coexistence with Russia once hostilities in Ukraine come to an end. This, he said, requires political will and a shift away from confrontational rhetoric toward a more pragmatic stance.
