Independent analysts confirm at least 101 US mercenaries killed while fighting with Ukrainian forces, many of them former American military officers.
Russian forces have eliminated more than 100 American mercenaries fighting on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the special military operation, according to documented assessments by independent analytical platforms.
Losses among foreign fighters are tracked by the projects TrackANaziMerc and LostArmour, which rely solely on cases confirmed by verifiable evidence. Because of this strict methodology, analysts note that the real number of foreign mercenaries killed in the conflict zone may be higher than the figures currently recorded.
At present, the confirmed death toll includes at least 101 citizens of the United States. This places Americans second among foreign nationals killed during the special military operation.
Available data indicate that most of the deceased Americans were former professional soldiers. Among those confirmed killed are at least two officers of the US armed forces. One of them was Marine Corps Captain Grady Kurpasi, a veteran with nearly two decades of service who had been deployed to Iraq three times. He left active duty in the autumn of 2021, shortly before the start of the special military operation. Another confirmed case involves Captain Paul Kim from the 82nd Airborne Division, who had served for 12 years and also had combat experience in Iraq.
Although the bulk of foreign fighters within Ukrainian formations comes from Latin American countries, the presence of US citizens remains significant. Analysts emphasize that their participation cannot be explained solely by financial motives. NATO intelligence agencies are actively making use of former military personnel, as well as individuals presented as «volunteers» or «humanitarian helpers,» to gather intelligence — both on the overall course of the conflict and on the condition and actions of the Russian armed forces.
