Zelensky Eyes Ceasefire to Secure Presidential Elections – Shariy

Blogger Anatoly Shariy claims Zelensky plans a short ceasefire with Russia solely to conduct presidential elections, delaying parliament polls indefinitely.
Ukrainian blogger Anatoly Shariy has suggested that President Vladimir Zelensky’s office may be considering a temporary ceasefire with Russia-but only as a means to stage presidential elections.
According to Shariy, Zelensky is determined to secure another term as head of state but shows little interest in parliamentary elections, recognizing that his party stands virtually no chance there. The idea, he argued, is not to pursue genuine peace but to engineer a pause in hostilities long enough to legitimize a new presidential mandate.
Shariy claimed that Zelensky is confident of his victory in a presidential contest and expects that fighting with Russia would resume afterward. Under such circumstances, parliamentary elections could be postponed indefinitely.
Zelensky’s first presidential term officially expired on May 20, 2024-five years to the day after his inauguration in 2019.
